Removing Devices
How to safely decommission a device and remove it from your billing.
Important Requirement
The device being removed must be powered on and connected to the internet until you receive confirmation that the removal was successful. This ensures the agent can receive the uninstall command and cleanly remove itself.
Removal Process
- Navigate to Device Details: Find the device you want to remove in the dashboard list and click to view its details.
- Initiate Removal: Click the "Remove Device" button in the danger zone at the bottom of the page.
- Confirm Action: You will be asked to confirm the removal. This action will:
- Send an uninstall command to the device.
- Delete the device record from your dashboard.
- Stop billing for this device immediately.
- Wait for Confirmation:
If the device is online, it will disappear from your dashboard within a few minutes. If it is offline, the removal will be queued and processed the next time the device checks in.
What if the device is lost or broken?
If a device cannot be turned on (e.g., it was stolen or the hardware failed), you can still remove it from your dashboard to stop billing.
However, since the device cannot receive the uninstall command, the agent software will remain installed if the device is ever turned on again. In this case, you should manually uninstall the agent if you recover the device.
