Understanding how PeakDesk monitors and determines the health status of your devices.

What is Device Health?

In PeakDesk, "Device Health" refers to a device's adherence to a set of security and operational baselines. These baselines ensure that your devices are active, communicating with the management server, and up-to-date with the latest security patches.

A device is considered Healthy only when it meets ALL the baseline requirements. If it fails any single check, it is marked as Unhealthy.

Health Criteria

1. Device Availability

Devices must check in regularly to be considered active and managed.

  • Unhealthy: If a device has been offline for more than 24 hours.
  • Monitoring Interval: Health checks run every 6 hours.

2. Patch Management

Devices must have all critical security patches installed and no failed patch installations.

  • Unhealthy: If a device has any of the following:
  • Critical or Important OS security updates pending installation
  • Critical or Important OS security updates that failed to install
  • Third-party software patches pending approval or installation
  • Healthy: All critical security patches are installed, no failed installations, and no pending software updates.

Note: Failed patches often indicate a device needs a reboot or has conflicting updates. PeakDesk monitors both pending and failed patches to ensure your devices remain secure.

Common Questions

How often is device health checked?

The system runs an automated health check every 6 hours to ensure your devices remain secure and up-to-date. This automated process runs in the background without interrupting your work.

What happens when a device is unhealthy?

When a device is marked as unhealthy, it will appear in the "At Risk" section of your dashboard. Depending on your alert settings, you may also receive an email notification if the device remains unhealthy for an extended period (24 hours, 72 hours, or 5 days).
